Answers to frequently asked questions

What qualifications do I need for a position in Germany?

The required qualifications depend on the profession. In the IT sector, a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field is generally preferred. In nursing, a completed vocational training in nursing is necessary, which must be recognized in Germany.

What language level do I need?

For most qualified occupations, at least level B1, ideally B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required. In nursing, B2 is usually mandatory. In some international IT companies, English may be sufficient, but German language skills are always an advantage.

How long does the work permit process take?

The duration depends on various factors, but on average you should expect 2-4 months. For IT specialists with a university degree, the process can be accelerated with the EU Blue Card. For nursing staff, the recognition of professional qualifications may take additional time.

Can I bring my family to Germany?

Yes, as a qualified professional with a residence permit or EU Blue Card, you can bring your spouse and minor children to Germany. For family members of EU Blue Card holders, simplified conditions apply (e.g. no proof of German language skills for the spouse).
